At the bottom of the export page, there are buttons to start ( Export), Stop and Pause the export. Preview only works on the -> page.
During export, Kino estimates the time needed to complete the export, and displays this time in the statusbar. This estimate is often a bit too optimistic in the beginning of the export process, but becomes more accurate later in the process.
If you stop the export, Kino aborts the export process. This can lead to temporary files not being deleted by the programs Kino called to perform the export.
Pausing the export can be beneficial if you need to perform other computing and wish to free the system from the burden of the export process temporarily.

---|---|
Kino exports in a background process. You can leave the Export page and use other functions in Kino. Exporting uses a snapshot of the movie at the time you start, so you can do other editing and not harm the export process (unless you move or remove files it is expecting, of course!) |
